Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral Conscious Sedation in Borger, TX

Oral conscious sedation is a prescription medication you take before your appointment. You stay awake and responsive during treatment, but deeply relaxed — many patients don't remember much of the visit afterward, which is often the exact point.

How it works

Dr. Robertson prescribes the medication with specific instructions on when to take it before you come in. By the time you arrive, you'll feel calm and drowsy — arranged, that's why we ask you to have someone drive you to and from the appointment. You shouldn't drive the day you're sedated. Having someone stay with you for a few hours after is also a good idea depending on how you're feeling.

Why patients choose it

  • The amnesic effect means most of the visit won't stick in memory — a relief for patients who've had hard dental experiences before
  • Deeper relaxation than nitrous, without the IV involved in heavier sedation
  • Often a better cost match for patients who need more than nitrous but less than full IV sedation
  • Helpful for longer procedures where sitting still for a long stretch is the hardest part

If you're anxious about an upcoming visit, bring it up with Dr. Robertson. He'll go through the options — nitrous, oral sedation, or a combination — and match what you need to what the procedure actually calls for.
