Tooth Extractions in Borger, TX
Dr. Robertson's preference is always to save a tooth when it's savable. But when a tooth is fractured below the gumline, decayed past repair, or causing infection that threatens nearby bone, extraction is the cleaner path forward. The goal then is to remove it comfortably and set you up for what comes next.
When extraction is the right call
- Severe decay that a filling or crown can't restore
- Infection that has damaged the tooth and surrounding bone
- A tooth that's cracked below the gumline
- Crowding that's affecting the bite or blocking orthodontic treatment
What the visit is like
Before any extraction, Dr. Robertson reviews imaging, confirms the tooth can't reasonably be saved, and walks you through options for replacing it afterward if it's in a spot that needs a replacement. The extraction itself is done with local anesthetic; sedation is available if you'd rather be more relaxed. Most simple extractions take just a few minutes once you're numb.
Recovery and what's next
You'll leave with clear aftercare instructions — soft foods, cold compresses for swelling, and a short list of things to avoid while the socket heals (straws, smoking, vigorous rinsing). Healing usually takes a few days for the initial comfort, a few weeks for the socket to close. If the missing tooth will need to be replaced, we'll schedule a separate conversation about whether an implant, bridge, or partial denture makes the most sense for your case.
