Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep Apnea Treatment in Borger, TX

For patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, a custom oral appliance is a low-profile alternative to a CPAP machine. The appliance holds your lower jaw slightly forward while you sleep, which keeps the airway open and cuts down on snoring and the breathing pauses that define apnea.

Common signs of sleep apnea

  • Loud, chronic snoring
  • Gasping or choking during sleep
  • Waking up with a dry mouth or sore throat
  • Morning headaches
  • Daytime sleepiness no matter how long you slept
  • A bed partner noticing pauses in your breathing

How treatment works

A diagnosis has to come from a sleep physician first — we can't diagnose apnea from the dental chair. Once you have that diagnosis, Dr. Robertson can make an appliance that fits your mouth. It looks a bit like a night guard but is shaped to position the lower jaw forward just enough to keep the airway clear. We take impressions, fit the finished appliance, and follow up to fine-tune it as your body adjusts.

Oral appliances work well for patients who can't tolerate CPAP or travel frequently — they're quiet, portable, and easy to clean. They won't replace CPAP for severe cases, but for the right candidate they're a practical option that's actually easy to stick with.
